Paul recieved his MBA from the University of Miami and his Bachelors from Tulane. He is the Founder and Managing Director of both KW Property Management and Consulting and RKW Residential, and is an accomplished accounting, finance and real estate professional. KW Property Management and RKW Residential collectively offer property management, accounting services and consulting for real estate assets throughout the SE United States and the Bahamas for over 100,000 units with the help of over 1,900 employees.

Tracey Berkowitz

Trustee, Fairholme Foundation

Tracey Berkowitz is the managing trustee of The Fairholme Foundation. Established in 2002, the Foundation supports artistic, educational, and religious non-profit organizations.

She attended the University of Massachusetts and earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing.

Mrs. Berkowitz was elected to the University of Miami Board of Trustees in 2011 and served on the Presidential Search Committee tasked with selecting the sixth president of the University of Miami. She and her husband, Bruce, are Vice Chairs of the Momentum2: The Breakthrough Campaign for the University of Miami with a goal of raising $1.6 billion. She served as Chair of the Student Affairs Committee for three years. The Fairholme Foundation’s leadership gift to the new Student Activities Center Complex has dramatically enhanced and transformed campus life. She is the proud mother of three ’Canes and was awarded the Pat Whitely Silent Hero Award in 2016 by the Student Government.

She serves on the Executive Committee for Friendship Circle of Miami, and her involvement with the organization dates back to 2010.

Michele Kaplan

Co-Founder, Families for Fragile X

Michele Kaplan received a B.A. in Elementary Education, with a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Florida International University. She was a teacher for Miami-Dade Public County Public Schools for 6 years. After her son was born with Fragile X Syndrome, she co-founded Families for Fragile X in 2008, where she currently serves as President. Most importantly, Michele is a mom to three children: Rachel, Matthew, and Alyson.

Claudia Potamkin

Entrepreneur, Volunteer, Philanthropist

Claudia Potamkin began her professional career in media as a sportscaster in the late 70’s, producing sports news for newstalk radio WNWS and ABC’s Channel 10, and broadcasting radio for Miami Hurricanes Baseball. Claudia has served on the boards of civic and charitable boards for over 40 years and feels it is a duty and an honor to respond to the needs of her local and global communities.

Claudia joined Friendship Circle's Board because "there is no better initiative than to give those with special needs the opportunity to thrive with the same positive external cues and support that we all enjoy."

Dr. Diane Adreon

Diane has served as the associate director of the University of Miami - Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism & Related Disabilities since 1993. In addition, Dr. Adreon presents and consults nationally and internationally on high-functioning autism spectrum disorders.

She loves and supports Friendship Circle because "their recreational programs help individuals with developmental disabilities have positive experiences socializing with others and learning new skills."


Dr. Trevor Resnick, M.D.

Former Chief, Department of Neurology, Nicklaus Children's Hospital & Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology, University of Miami School of Medicine

Dr. Resnick is Emeritus Chief of the Department of Neurology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. He is Professor of Neurology at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University and Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town South Africa. He completed his Pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut Medical Center and Neurology training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Resnick has authored numerous scientific publications and edited several books and journal supplements. He is a member of editorial boards of leading neurology journals and lectures widely in North America. His research interests have focused on the neurodevelopmental correlates and treatment of chronic epilepsy and co-morbid neurodevelopmental disorders.

Stacy has a passion for making the lives of people with special needs as fulfilling as possible, and knows what it takes to raise children who have special needs in our community!

Stacy graduated from Southern Methodist University with two degrees before choosing a career in investment banking. She retired after her son was diagnosed with special needs to care for him and an ever-growing family of three more children, including a second child with special needs.

For the past 25 years, Stacy has been a staunch advocate for appropriate health care, education, and inclusion for all. She has served in various leadership roles and on the boards of other charitable and educational organizations.

Stacy is excited about Friendship Circle in particular because it offers a loving, safe, and fun way for people of all ages and abilities to make real, true connections with other people. She is committed to helping the Friendship Circle grow, develop and build the resources and facilities to keep making the magic happen!

Jason Shapiro

Jason Shapiro graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Miami in 1992 and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Miami in 1994. Both degrees were earned with a specialty in Finance.

Jason is a Managing Director of Aztec Group, Inc., and principal of Mayan Capital LLC and Mayan Properties LLC (both affiliates of Aztec). Jason has over 15 years of experience in commercial real estate investment banking, and leads all capital markets activities for the firm. Jason’s primary focus is arranging all forms of debt including permanent, bridge, construction, mezzanine and participating loans, as well as equity and joint venture placements for the firm’s own account and on behalf of the firm’s extensive client base. Jason has been involved in and closed transactions spanning all commercial and residential real estate asset types totaling over $2 billion, and encompassing in excess of 50 million square feet.

Prior to joining Aztec, Jason spent seven years as Vice President of Thomas D. Wood & Company’s Coral Gables, Florida office. There he was responsible for the origination and placement of long-term, income property loans on behalf of domestic life insurance companies.

Alex Krys

Alex is currently a Managing Member of Juniper Capital Partners, LLC. and is active in all of Juniper’s investments.

Alex has a corporate background as CEO of multi-national operations combined with significant experience in the financial and operational restructuring of complex businesses and Assets. Juniper, through their affiliate JCF LLP, facilitated the purchase of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas with Virgin Hotels. Additionally, Juniper Capital though its affiliates acquired Trump Towers in Toronto, ON which was rebranded as a St. Regis. Through an advisory agreement with Juniper, Mr. Krys served as the President and COO of Turnberry Associates. Turnberry is a Florida based developer, owner and manager of assets in the commercial, retail, residential and hospitality sector. Mr. Krys re-structured an over $5 billion dollar portfolio for Turnberry Associates. Mr. Krys also led the investment and re-structure of the Gencom assets that included the equity investment and financial restructuring in Ritz Carlton hotels in Florida, Pennsylvania, Colorado, California and Hawaii. Mr. Krys worked closely with the Lehman Bankruptcy trustee in order to successfully restructure the Ritz Carlton portfolio. Additionally, he was a senior advisor for GenSpring Family Offices, a $20 billion multi-family office company. Alex previously served as President of Diageo Spain/Europe where he spearheaded one of Diageo's four major worldwide markets, and President of Diageo's Venture Markets Americas & Caribbean, where he managed operations in a portfolio of 36 countries.

Alex lives in Coral Gables with his four children.

Judge Stanford Blake

Stanford Blake brings his love of the law and people to South Florida as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediation, after 22 years as a highly respected judge who presided over many high profile trials and complex cases.

Stan Blake has been honored by the Family Bar with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers “Jurist of the Year” and by the Civil Bar with the Judge Steve Levine Award for Fairness, Integrity and Professionalism. He has received many other awards while on the Bench including, but not limited to, The Judge William Hoeveler Lifetime Achievement Award, The Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Award for Judicial Excellence, The Conference of Circuit Judges Chair’s Award, The Justice Gerald Kogan Judicial Distinction Award, The Alan Schwartz Judicial Excellence Award, the League of Prosecutors Justice Award and the University of Miami Law Alumni Achievement Award. He was also honored to receive the highest bar approval rating ever of the Dade County Bar Association of almost 99% exceptionally qualified/qualified in 2012.

Stan Blake has always been involved with teaching. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law teaching Litigation Skills for nearly 20 years and teaches at the New Judge’s mandatory program yearly. Stan has also been a regular instructor for the Circuit Court Conference and Advanced Judicial Studies during his tenure on the Bench. He was a presenter for the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts 48th Annual Conference and a lecturer for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. for a national symposium on indigent defense in the United States.

Stan Blake has also served our community for many years. He was the President of the Board of Directors of the Haven School for the Developmentally Disadvantaged, President of the Kiwanis Club of Biscayne Bay, as well as a Board Member of Lauren’s Kids. Having donated a kidney to his brother in 1996, Stan became active in the Transplant Foundation

Joe Roisman

Born in Havana, Joe came to the United States from Cuba via Israel, and his story is a true inspiration. He served in the Israeli Defense Forces and is also a veteran of the Six Day War in 1967. Married to Wife Aida for 49 years, Joe has 4 sons, 3 daughters in law and 3 grandchildren.

Joe is the Executive Vice President for Perry Ellis International, having held various positions at the company in his 48 years of service where he has played an integral role in the company's growth and expansion. Joe has been a treasure to our community, serving on the boards of the Beacon Council, Cancer Support Community of Miami, Actors Playhouse in Coral Gables, The Education Fund, Friendship Circle of Miami, Greater Miami Jewish Federation, The Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center, South Dade Executive Council of AIPAC, United Way, and Temple Samu-El Or Olom.

Raquel Regalado

Miami Dade County Commissioner, District 7

Raquel's entire career reflects a deep commitment to the people and issues that make Miami a place like no other. As a community leader, she is most known for her strong advocacy for disabled children and adults, housing, seniors, fixing school facilities and transportation.

Since 2008, Ms. Regalado has hosted several radio and television programs in Spanish that focus on informing listeners about local politics, public housing, immigration and social services. These include a daily program on La Poderosa 670 AM, from 2008 to 2018, and Esta Semana con Raquel, a weekly television show that aired throughout Florida from 2008 to 2017. Currently, Ms. Regalado co-hosts Hoy por Hoy on Radio Caracol 1260 AM and contributes editorials for Community Newspapers and El Diario de la Américas.

In 2010, dissatisfied with public education options for children with disabilities, she ran for and was elected to the Miami-Dade County Public School Board (M-DCPS) representing District 6. In her 6 years on the 9-member School Board, she championed programs and services for special needs children and adults, as well as the district’s technology needs and became the face of a successful bond initiative to invest in updating and building public schools throughout Miami-Dade County.

In 2020, she became the first Miami-born Hispanic woman elected to the Miami-Dade County Commission. 

Raquel Regalado is the proud mother of two teenagers, Isabela and Sebastian. She is the daughter of former City of Miami Mayor and former Director of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, Tomas P. Regalado. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from St. Thomas University School of Law, a B.A. from Florida International University, and attended Miami‐Dade Community College Honors and Coral Gables Senior High.

DeWayne Terry

DeWayne was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Following graduation from The Bolles School, he studied at Duke University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy. After a brief professional sports career, he moved to South Florida to pursue a law degree at St. Thomas School of Law. He began his legal career in Miami–Dade County as an Assistant State Attorney under the leadership of the Honorable Katherine Fernandez Rundle. DeWayne continued his public service as Assistant Staff Counsel for the Florida Bar’s Miami Office and later went on to work in the civil, criminal and family law divisions, earning a distinguished reputation as a skilled trial attorney in the South Florida legal community. In 2010, he joined Rubenstein Law where he went on to lead the firm’s Personal Injury Protection Litigation Division.

As an athlete and avid sports enthusiast, he lettered in both football and track while at Duke University and was Co–Captain of the football team led by Head Coach Steve Spurrier. Subsequently, he enjoyed a brief free agent career with the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Indianapolis Colts.

Outside of work, DeWayne is affiliated with The Miramar Optimist Club as a youth football Coach, The Sigma Alpha  Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Offspring Masonic Lodge #252.  He is a member of Greater St Paul AME Church located in Coconut Grove, Florida, and is a longtime supporter of the Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival. While not working or volunteering, DeWayne enjoys music, singing, traveling, and family.

Nancy Veitia

Nancy was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University with her Bachelors in Elementary Education, Minor in Early Childhood and continued her education at Nova University where she earned her Masters in Reading and a Specialist in Gifted Education.

A distinguished teacher for the Miami Dade County Public School System, Nancy was acknowledged by The National Nominating Committee of Academic Affairs as an educational leader and mentor. Nancy has had the pleasure to serve as Chair for her grade level team and was selected to be one of the educators to write the Common Core State Standards.

Nancy’s passion has always been to teach, mentor and guide others to be the best that they can be. As an educator Nancy taught to work on weaknesses and build on strengths. Nancy believes all things are possible, the sky's the limit!

Today Nancy Veitia is a retired teacher. She has now joined one of her husband’s businesses, Dolphin Management. Nancy is a property manager and a property investor where she oversees the day-to-day management and operations of commercial and residential properties.

Nancy is a dedicated and loving wife. Married to Agustin Veitia and mother of two wonderful boys, Christian and Daniel. Family is the center of Nancy’s life. Nancy is seen as the glue of the family.

Nancy is an active member and supporter of various organizations. She is a member of the Doctor’s Hospital Gala Committee and is proudly part of the Doctor’s Hospital Giving Society. She sponsors and sits on the board of The Demoya Foundation, a non profit organization that helps create employment for young adults with unique abilities.

Nancy has been an active participant and fundraiser for Friendship Circle as a committee member of the Heart and Soul Gala and as the Chair for the 2020 Walking-4-Friendship. Nancy Veitia puts her time, effort, and financial support in each organization she participates. "Life is a balance between family, work, and giving back in gratitude," says Nancy.

Barry Lapides

As a partner for the past 8 years at Berger Singerman, Barry has concentrated his legal practice in complex commercial real estate and finance transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, joint ventures, financing, workouts, commercial mortgage-backed securities, and loan restructuring involving office buildings, shopping centers, hotel, raw land, and residential developments. Additionally, Barry has extensive experience in the creation of condominiums (residential, commercial and mixed use) and master planned communities and the developer’s governance of same. 

Born in Miami Beach, Barry is a lifelong resident of Miami and currently resides in the South Miami area. After graduating from Miami-Killian High School, Barry obtained his B.B.A. in Accounting from Emory University. He graduated with honors from the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida in 2003, and obtained his LL.M. in Taxation in 2004.

Barry is involved in a variety of civic organizations throughout Miami, including the AIPAC Club, Bet Tzedek’s Holocaust Services Project, and the 200 Club of Greater Miami. He served as the Previous Chair for the Anti-Defamation League’s Glass Leadership Institute for the Miami Chapter.
